PHASE 3: Creative Website Development and Implementation
Website Development Methods
There are many website development methods being used right now on the internet. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, website development, it simply is the process in which the graphic website design is converted to web language or code. There are different methods of converting graphics to code and it is important that website's are developed with Standards.
What is Website Development Standards?
Website Development Standards is monitored by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), which is an organization created to help make the web accessible for all users and was created by Tim Berners-Lee (the man who invented the Internet). The purpose is to bring standards to the many website development methods, website browsers and other such related companies.
"Consistency is one of the most powerful usability principles: when things always behave the same, users don't have to worry about what will happen. Instead, they know what will happen based on earlier experience."
- Jakob Nielsen (www.usit.com)
Website Development Browser Compatibility
Along with building a website to coincide with Web Standards, it is also highly important to have the website development be cross-browser compatible. What this simply means is that it will render, or simply appear, identical in all major browsers (Firefox, Safari, Opera, Mozilla and who could forget the ever present menace, Internet Explorer). Along with the different browser options, there are also varying versions. For example, IE has 3 different versions currently being used (IE7 - 21.0% of the market, IE6 - 33.2% and IE5 - 1.7%), all of which can render website development differently. So it is important to create the website development to work in all major browsers as to eliminate the loss of any potential clients.
