Thursday was Valentines Day for Indiana Website Design graphic artist - that’s me- and I have three amazing girls (1 wife, 2 daughters - no I do not endorse polygamy) which I get to spend the holiday with.  Well, it’s our tradition that I make dinner (something I do maybe a dozen times a year) and they get in their best dresses and we all have a candlelight dinner and I serve them a gourmet meal (I used to work for a catering company so I can do a little).  Well this year I made roasted salmon in red wine sauce (for my wife and I) and plain roasted salmon for the girls.  For sides I had butter garlic sauteed jumbo shrimp, crab and steamed broccoli.  We like seafood and don’t get much of it being in the midwest.  I had contemplated creating a special Indiana Website Design, but thought that the dinner, candles, cards, tulips (a tradition from my wife & I’s first valentines day together) and red wine (obviously not for the kids).  We had a great time together and friday it was back to Indiana Website Design.

So as it sounds, IE8 will not be standards complient by default.  They will continue to render Indiana Web Design using the IE7 Engine and make a ’standards complient’ version optional.  They say they dont want existing websites to be broken in a ’standards complient’ browser - so they made it optional.  So, Indiana Web Design wonders, that if those sites are not standards complient, chances are they are broken in other major browser (or have been fixed to work in other major browsers).  It may inconvenience some who have built their website to only work for IE - but really should they cator to those sites at all?  Indiana web design is effectively developed to be cross browser compatible - which means that we take the time to fuss with IE6, IE7 (and soon IE8).  Building a website for Opera, Mozilla and FireFox comes naturally, tweaking the Indiana Web Design to work in Internet Explorer is time consuming and a complete pain in the BUTT!  But, what can you do.  If the big guy makes a decision, the little guys (no matter how stupid the decision may be) have to comply.  Thanks once again MS.

During a lull in Indiana Web Design, we researched the Yahoo/Microsoft situation and were happy to see that Yahoo has officially rejected the software giants offer.  Yahoo is currently looking at other possiblities, like outsourcing some work to Google (that would be a better move than to sell out to MS) and building cashflow.  Yahoo stated that the MS bid “substantially undervalues” the company but left the door open for negotiations.  Indiana Web Design is happy to see them stand up to the pressure and wonder just how far MS is willing to go. Underlying statements were made that Microsoft “reserves the right to pursue all necessary steps to ensure that Yahoo’s shareholders are provided with the opportunity to realize the value inherent in our proposal,” - so the question Indiana Web Design would like to know is how far will they go?  Will they force Yahoo’s hand into getting what they want, hmm, sounds like a move they would make.  Well, Indiana Web Design will just have to wait and see.
